About TakeHome

TakeHome answers one question well: how much of my pay do I actually keep? We build free paycheck and tax calculators for US employees checking a job offer, a raise or a first paycheck, people weighing a move to another state, and freelancers estimating quarterly taxes.

What makes it different

  • Every assumption is visible. Under each result we list the method, the deductions and thresholds used, and the items we don’t model for your state.
  • Official numbers only. Rates and limits come from the IRS, the Social Security Administration and state agencies, each with a source link and the date we read it.
  • One engine everywhere. 9 calculators and 51 state pages share the same tested tax engine, so a number on one page agrees with every other.

Who we are

TakeHome is written and maintained by The TakeHome Tax Desk. The TakeHome Tax Desk builds and maintains the site’s calculators and tax datasets, reading every figure from the IRS, the Social Security Administration and state revenue and labor departments. We are not a tax-preparation firm and don’t sell tax services; the site is supported by advertising, which never influences our numbers.

Estimates, not tax advice

Our calculators produce estimates from published rates and the inputs you give. Actual withholding depends on your W-4 and your employer’s payroll system, and your final tax depends on your full return. For decisions with real money at stake, check with a tax professional or the IRS.
